Former AZ, Feyenoord, Lierse striker Huysegems to ponder Wellington Phoenix offer

Belgian forward Stein Huysegems says he will strongly consider signing a new deal with A-League club Wellington Phoenix.

The 31-year old is out of contract with the New Zealand outfit in May and is expecting a fresh offer from the 'Nix after netting seven goals in 15 outings so far this season.

"I think the club are looking to offer me a new contract within the next couple of weeks," the former Lierse, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, FC Twente and Genk attacker told SBS.

"I will look at it when the time arrives and see what decision to make.

"I am happy with Wellington and will keep an open mind on everything. I am nearly 32 now, and this might be my last professional contract, so I have to make sure it is the right one for me and my family.

"Ideally, I would like the security of a two year offer because that gives you some peace of mind and makes you less nervous at the beginning of each year in terms of feeling added pressure on your performances.

"I think I've been doing my job, and so has the team in the last few weeks.

"We will wait and see. Phoenix is a nice club and we are playing a good brand of football under Ernie Merrick which I think we will see us finish in the top six this season."

The Phoenix currently sit second bottom on the A-League table but are just three points behind fifth-placed Adelaide United ahead of tonight's trip to league leaders Brisbane Roar.
