Forlan camp protest innocence over Inter Milan Euro ineligibility

Diego Forlan's camp insist they are as shocked as Inter Milan that he is ineligible for the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri discovered the striker cannot feature in the Champions League until January, as he played for Atletico Madrid in the third preliminary round of the Europa League.

"It was a surprise for us as well," insisted agent Bolotnicoff. "We assumed he'd be able to play in the group phase of the Champions League.

"Diego was angry, as he wanted to play in the most prestigious competition straight away, but his anger will transform into energy to do well in Serie A while he awaits the knockout rounds."

The representatives also denied reports they knew what was happening and opted not to tell Inter during negotiations.

"There was nothing to hide. He played an international game that was shown on television all over the world. In fact, he played two, as he was in both legs."
