Arsenal superkid Gabriel Martinelli is a former Barcelona reject, it has been revealed.

While Manchester United's decision to pass on the Brazilian has been highlighted this week, it's also been confirmed Martinelli had two weeks at La Masia.

The attacker, then still with FC Ituano, trained with Barca's Juvenil A squad for a fortnight, but failed to do enough to convince coaching staff.

Martinelli eventually signed for Arsenal last summer and has emerged as one of the best performing teens in Europe this season.

The Gunners are now in the process of handing the 18 year-old a new contract worth £30,000-a-week.
