Football League turn down prospective Stockport owners

The consortium looking to buy League One outfit Stockport County had their bid rejected by the Football League. The consortium needs approval from the League in order to receive a "football share" allowing it to remain in the competition.

However, joint administrators Leonard Curtis said they had received confirmation the League was "unable to recommend the transfer of the SCFC share to the prospective purchaser".

The administrators said in a statement: "We understand that certain items of required information are still outstanding. We remain hopeful the Melrose Consortium can still progress their interest and we will continue to provide information and support to them.

"However, we will also continue to actively seek interest from other parties and would emphasis that any such parties should notify us of their interest as quickly as possible in order to ensure the club's future."

County, are currently rock bottom of League One after 16 matches without a league victory.
