Fonte: I'll be better for West Ham next season

Jose Fonte has promised West Ham fans he will perform better next season.

The Portuguese defender, who spent last summer helping his country to Euro 2016 glory, believes he can return next season more refreshed after an extended break.

The 33-year old will compete for Portugal in the Confederations Cup this summer in Russia, but he reckons Hammers manager Slaven Bilic will take it easy on him before the beginning of next season.

"Firstly, Burnley are a very difficult team to beat at home, so we're very pleased. We came in with a bright attitude and we go three big points," said Fonte after West Ham's 2-1 defeat of Burnley on Sunday.

"But next season, the whole team wants to come back fresh, because I can be better and I want to be better for this Club. That's what I'm going to do.

"After the internationals are done, I will speak to the gaffer to get a good rest, because I haven't had one in the last three years, for a good reason!

"I want to get my rest, come back fresh, and have a great season next year."
