Caleb Folan admits he let down his Hull City teammates after being sent-off in their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Folan was keen to stress he did not mean to kick Martin Skrtel, although he accepts the consequences for doing so could be costly.
"I was trying to use my arms to get round him and I don't know whether the ref has pulled me for the use of my arm or my foot towards the end," said the 26-year-old, who had been making his first start since August.
"I was trying to get past the defender. He got in front of me and tried to obstruct me in a way. He was holding me a little bit and making it hard for me.
"I didn't intentionally mean to swing out with my arms or my foot at the player.
"It was kind of in the moment. I did swing the leg but I didn't mean it to kick him. It was more of a frustration thing.
"It was a great game to come into but I just feel a bit gutted that I have let myself down in getting a red card.
"Potentially I could be missing some important games now which is a bit of a blow."
