Filipe Luis admits he turned down Premier League offers to sign with Flamengo.

The veteran defender, 34, is said to have received offers from French side Lyon and Borussia Dortmund, but opted to return to his home country by joining Flamengo.

A return to the Premier League was also on the cards as Pep Guardiola's Manchester City registered an interest in the two-time Champions League finalist.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Luis said that City got in touch earlier this year.

He said: “From January until March I had an offer from Manchester City, but it didn't work out.

“There was a call from Juninho Pernambucano to go to Lyon, but I said I could only give an answer after the Copa America and they ended up signing someone else.

“There was Turkey, China, a number of countries that called, but none of them felt right in my heart at the time."
