Fjortoft tells Solskjaer: Man Utd squad have too many average players

Bundesliga pundit Jan-Aage Fjortoft says Manchester United have too many average players.

The former Middlesbrough striker insists United must buy big again this summer.

The only tactic from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United can't be a penalty and a Bruno Fernandes goal," Fjortoft told ESPN FC.

"I think that you have to be honest, with this team, with this season, if they make top four, great.

"But to take the next step, to challenge for the title as Manchester United always should, they need new players.

"They have too many average players in that team, they have too many young players that maybe could be great players but are not at all close to being great players now.

"So they need two or three to even challenge for the title at United."

Fjortoft believes Solskjaer is doing as well as he can with the players at his disposal.

"Well he's second in the league, don't forget that," Fjortoft continued.

"Have a look at the table at the moment, Manchester City are 15 points ahead of Manchester United - yes, correct.

"They are 22 points ahead of Liverpool, what happened to them?"
