Former Premier League star Jan-Aage Fjortoft says RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner would be the ideal signing for Liverpool.

After hitting the winner from the spot at Tottenham last night, Werner declared himself "very proud" knowing Liverpool were interested in him.

And former Middlesbrough striker Fjortoft told Viasport, "Liverpool should be very interested in Werner.

"He will fit perfectly with the way (Jurgen) Klopp plays. And head on. Werner has been skeptical about going abroad, but Klopp is a coach that everyone wants to play for.

"Yes, Liverpool already have a top class attack. But I have a feeling that one of them will move on. After the Champions League, Club World Cup title and Premier League title, it's a perfect time to renew the team. Maybe it is (Mohamed) Salah who feels he needs a new challenge."
