Fjortoft: Even Liverpool's Norwegian fans are proud of Solskjaer

Norwegian pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft admitted some relief over Manchester United's sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

The former Middlesbrough striker says it was tough watching Solskjaer go through what he experienced in recent weeks.

"It was definitely a relief. In the last couple of months, it has become clear that it was completely impossible to steer this ship. It has been a very tough period for Solskjær," he said.

"He got some results that kept him going after the Liverpool loss. But then came a phase where you do not see progress. It's hard to see how they want to play and what they were trying to do. That was his path.

"He should be incredibly proud of what he has achieved. He has written Norwegian football history and Norwegian sports history. I think all of us who have played with him and all Norwegians are proud that a Norwegian for three years has led one of the largest football clubs in the world. That includes Liverpool fans."
