Fit and firing Shelvey a huge asset but Swansea prepared to sell - Curtis

Swansea City boss Alan Curtis has said that a fit and focused Jonjo Shelvey could prove to be an asset for the Swans in their relegation battle.

The England international has found himself out of favour at the Liberty Stadium recently and has made just one league start since November 21.

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have been linked with moves for the 23-year-old and the Swans have received enquiries regarding the player who could quite possibly be offloaded in the coming days despite the fact Curtis suggests he still has a future in South Wales.

Shelvey has the attributes to help Swansea out of the relegation mire but the club will not be opposed to the idea of selling him if the right offer comes in.

"I know there's been enquiries for Jonjo, but I don't think there's been any firm offers for him," Curtis said of the former Liverpool youngster.

"If a firm offer comes in for him then it's something the club would probably consider.

"I still think he has a part to play with us and if his mind is right then he can play a huge part for us between now and the end of the season.

"If his mind is right and he wants to stay gladly we would welcome his decision to stay with us until the end of the season.

"I think a fit and firing Jonjo could be a huge asset to us.

"If needs be, we have to bring someone else in on the back of selling somebody like Jonjo, that is maybe an avenue the club might have to go down."
