Fiorentina midfielder Torreira admits Arsenal struggles: I could barely speak English

Fiorentina midfielder Lucas Torreira admits he regrets his time with Arsenal.

The Uruguay international is on-loan at Arsenal from the Viola, which have a permanent option for the midfielder.

"I barely spoke English during my first year at the club. But some players spoke Italian: Sokratis, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. I was sitting near Mesut Özil and Alexandre Lacazette in the locker room. Crazy," he told Cronache di Spogliatoio.

"I did not go out so much, I had a person who often picked up my groceries. One day I went to the grocery store and when I went through the shelves I saw a label with the name of my town: 'Made in Fray Bentos'. Just like me. A village of 25,000 people in the corridors of London. It was exciting. It was a can, yes, but it was exciting."

Torreira has scored two goals and an assist in 22 Serie A matches this season. The 26-year-old took the opportunity to praise coach Vincenzo Italiano.

"Italiano often shouts and he is really good. He's crazy on the pitch. We have a good relationship and for that reason we often joke. Sometimes he takes off his jacket and becomes a teammate," adds the Uruguayan.
