FIFA will finalise dates for the 2022 World Cup on Thursday afternoon.
A FIFA task force suggested that the Qatar tournament be played in November and December rather than the usual months of June and July to avoid stifling heat in the Middle Eastern nation.
The executive committee of world football's governing body will hold the meeting in Zurich on Thursday before making an official announcement on Friday.
Regarding the likely decision, FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce told Sky Sports News HQ: "It is a very sensible solution to play in November and December.
"The final should be no later than December 18. I understand that some leagues, especially the Premier League, are concerned but this is a one-off, it's for one year, I don't see a major problem. If the final is played on the date we are talking about, the Christmas programme could resume as normal. I would hope that common sense will prevail."
