French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet says Karim Benzema's retirement is no surprise.

The Real Madrid striker has announced this week his international this week from France.

Le Graet said: "He probably intends to focus 100% on his club, after several mini-injuries.

"To my knowledge, he resumed training very recently, in no case could he have played (in the World Cup).

"The staff did the right thing, wanted to leave very quickly to see their doctors in Madrid."
