Football Federation Australia have stated that a second division for the A-League is definitely an aspiration.
With the fledgling league already growing in just its fifth year, there have been talks to expand further and add a second division.
A spokeswoman for FFA said that it was a definite possibility down the track.
"A second division with promotion and relegation is an aspiration for us, but our priority is ensuing that the A-League is sustainable and viable," the spokeswoman said.
"It is just entering its fifth year. Last year we introduced the National Youth League, and we are expanding by two teams this season and it is important that the gains made to date are consolidated.
"Our approach has resulted in an increase of more than 100 per cent of the total number of players employed in clubs as well as the many former players involved in coaching, administration and media.
"Introducing another division, with the associated costs, is not something we believe would be sensible to do until the conditions are right for the existing clubs as well as any potential clubs."
