Former Holland star Roy Makaay is backing Tahith Chong for success at Manchester United.

Makaay, now assistant coach at Feyenoord, worked with Chong before he left for United.

"With the Under-13s I had him in my team. And outside of it he regularly participated in specialist training. It soon became clear that he really was and is a great talent.

"A technically skilled player with good individual action and crossing. In addition, he always picks up goals. Really an excellent player," Makaay told Elf Voetbal.

"He and his family opted for United, despite attempts to keep him in Rotterdam. Very sorry for us, but I wish him every success.

"The comparisons with Arjen Robben in the media are a bit premature. We are good at that in the Netherlands. Let him develop well as Tahith. I hope he has a nice and long career ahead of him."
