Festa at centre of McDermott demise at Leeds

Gianluca Festa was a flashpoint in Brian McDermott's demise at Leeds United yesterday.

The Daily Mail says McDermott was sacked by Leeds United on Friday night as a controversial takeover of the club by an Italian consortium moves close to completion.

Massimo Cellino, who currently owns Italian club Cagliari, is attempting to buy the Championship club from owners GFH.

On Friday night, Leeds fans reportedly blocked Cellino's exit from Elland Road in protest of the sacking.

McDermott was furious earlier in the week when Cellino ordered the Leeds manager to allow former Middlesbrough defender Gianluca Festa on the bench for their clash with Ipswich.

The former Leeds chief refused the order and told friends he expected to be sacked within days.
