Former Inter Milan defender Riccardo Ferri says fans are upset over the prospect of Romelu Lukaku leaving.

The centre-forward, so crucial in last season's Serie A title triumph, is the subject of an offer from former club Chelsea.

Ferri told L'Interista: "I believe that there are people at Inter who are competent in the matter who do not invent things outside the logic overnight. We are following a line of safeguarding the economic and financial aspects and certain choices can be very painful, but they do so as part of a path to look at 360 degrees.

"I don't know if Chelsea is a concrete offer, but the fans are in turmoil and it is normal. Lukaku has been identified as a leader in what he does on and off the pitch. Personally I hope he can stay.

"The English are masters of the market for obvious reasons that we all know. Some figures are exaggeratedly strong, but football has taught us that when it seems that everything goes out, someone comes and puts on the plate the millions needed to buy a player."
