Ferdinand told Man Utd job doesn't include full transfer control

Manchester United will NOT hand Rio Ferdinand full control of transfer policy should they bring him back to Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail says United have told Ferdinand that the role they see for him at Old Trafford is not one of "transfer supremo".

United are keen to use Ferdinand's popularity, contacts and knowledge of the club in some capacity but are determined to build a structure where they aren't dependent on one individual for transfer recruitment.

The club plan to appoint a technical director this summer who will work on identifying both senior and youth transfer targets and coordinating a common plan among all the club teams at Carrington.

But they will be expected to work closely with the team that Ed Woodward has already built including chief scout Jim Lawlor who was part of Sir Alex Ferguson's backroom staff at United's peak.
