Pierre van Hooijdonk suggests Robin Van Persie is determined to be playing more regularly ahead of next summe's European Championships.
Manchester United striker van Persie has failed to cement a first-team spot under Louis van Gaal and has been linked with a number of clubs including Fenerbache.
Former Holland international van Hooijdonk, who played with van Persie at Feyenoord, believes the 31-year old is desperate to nail down regular game time in the lead-up to Euro2016 which may force him out at Old Trafford.
"Of course the money is good, life is good in Istanbul, but it is not a big football league in Europe we are talking about," wrote Van Hooijdonk in his column in Voetbal International.
"There is a lot at stake right now for Robin. He could be heading for his last Euro tournament in France next summer. So he needs to play a lot in the 10 months before the Euros."
