Fenerbahce icon Daum warns Ozil after Arsenal exit: Backlash will be worse than Germany

Former Fenerbahce coach Christoph Daum has a warning for Mesut Ozil.

The former Arsenal midfielder signed for Fener at the beginning of last week and could see action later today at Hatayspor. However, having not seen any competitive action since last March, coach Erol Bulut is wary of introducing Ozil too soon.

The midfielder will be with the travelling squad for the game against Hatayspor and could see minutes. But the big target is the weekend's huge clash against Galatasaray.

A record amount of hype and excitement has greeted Ozil, but Daum has concerns.

Quoted by Fanatik, the German warned: "If he cannot give the right performance, he will see a reaction that he did not experience even in his worst time in the German National Team.

"His reputation will always be he seeks the money he wants.

"It will be difficult to get him into the game. He will also have an experience he has never experienced physically, 2-3 markers will be constantly after him on the field. A tremendous pressure awaits him."

Daum, 67, had two spells in charge of Fener, twice winning the Super Lig title and also the Turkish Cup. He also tasted Super Lig and Turkish Cup glory with Besiktas. His last job in management was as coach of the Romanian national team, which he left in 2017.
