Fenerbahce-bound Lens has pop at Sunderland - They ‘would love to get rid of me’

Jeremain Lens has taken a parting shot at Sunderland on his way out the Stadium of Light exit door.

The Dutch winger has revealed that he is set to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce while having a pop at the Black Cats after a subpar spell on Wearside which started brightly when he arrived from Dynamo Kiev last summer.

Lens is set to link up with former PSV Eindhoven and Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat at Fenerbahce on a season-long loan.

"Sunderland would just love to get rid of me," Lens reportedly told the Sunderland Echo.

"I did not play, was not even on the bench. I just had a problem with the club. What? No idea.

"Tomorrow [Tuesday] I will undergo the medical examination (with Fenerbahce).

"I do not expect any problems. I'm looking forward to it. It's a nice transfer. Fenerbahce is a great club and a great challenge.

"I have a good relationship with Dick, but he also knows my qualities. It is not that he is doing me a favour. This is perhaps, for the purpose of (playing for) Holland again, a good step.

"I go to Fenerbahce if the chance is to get more playing time. I did not find it strange that I was missing the last couple of times in the national squad. It was understandable because I was not playing."
