FC United to welcome record crowd for FA Cup tie

FC United expect a record crowd for Monday's FA Cup tie with League OneChesterfield.

After spending several years playing at Curzon Ashton and Bury's Gigg Lane, FC United opened their new ground this year and 4,232 packed in to see them play Benfica.

That attendance figure will be beaten on Monday night with the club announcing on Saturday it was a 4,400 sell-out.

FC United go into the tie on the back of six straight defeats.

The club's GM, Andy Walsh, told the Mail on Sunday: "There is a real passion for football right the way through the national psyche. The authorities need to recognise that and pay more attention to that than some pot of gold that some billionaire businessman promises them. If they concentrate on the rich culture of football, it would be a lot better for the game."
