Barcelona football chief Mateo Alemany says Ansu Fati could've walked away for nothing at the end of this season.

Fati penned new terms to 2027 with Barca yesterday.

At Fati's presentation this morning, Alemany said: “Throughout the summer it was a challenge to reduce the salary of the squad and have the capacity for financial air play. Once this was done, we were clear that there were two priorities for the club, which were to renew Pedri and Ansu.

"They are already stars and considered the best in Europe at U-20 level. Pedri proved it at the Eurocup and is nominated for a Golden Boy. The two-year extension clauses were void because they were signed as minors and if they left us, what was the value of finding players like them? What is Ansu worth? They were market opportunities as potential free players."

Barca president Joan Laporta also revealed: “I want to give value to the will of the family and its involvement. Ansu stays for half of the offers he has received."
