The penalty came about when Simon Deli blocked Daniel James' shot with his arm, forcing him to leave the field with a red-card.
United kicked into gear then as Odion Ighalo doubled the lead with his first goal for United, before Scott McTominay made it 3-0 before half-time.
The game died off in the second-half but Fred managed to score a brace thanks to pullbacks from Jesse Lingard and Tahith Chong.
