The FA will appeal against any FIFA decision to ban Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli if it would affect him playing in the World Cup in Russia, Sky Sports understand.
Alli could be suspended for up to four competitive matches for making an offensive gesture during England's 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley last month.
FIFA's disciplinary committee started considering Alli's case on Wednesday and will come to a decision on Thursday - though that decision is likely not to be made public for several days.
