The FA says the next coach of England will be English.
Fabio Capello, manager of the team who fared so miserably at this summer's World Cup, remains contracted until 2012.
But the FA's Club England managing director Adrian Bevington made it clear this morning that, following Capello's tenure, the plan is to return to a home-grown coach.
"That is the view in the discussions I have been involved in," Bevington told BBC Radio 5 Live Sportsweek.
"We enjoyed working with Sven-Goran Eriksson, and we have Fabio Capello in now.
"I think the English team should be managed by an English manager [in the future]."
