FA clear Tottenham defender Vertonghen over Southampton incident

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen will not face retrospective action over an incident not seen by the officials during Spurs 4-1 victory at Southampton.

The Belgium defender caught Saints striker Jay Rodriguez in the face as he completed a clearance in the 17th minute of Wednesday's 4-1 win at St Mary's.

Vertonghen was not penalised by referee Mike Dean, or any of his assistants and the Football Association's independent review panel has viewed footage of the incident and the unanimous decision required for further action to be taken was not forthcoming.
