FA call in lip-readers as Mourinho faces ban for Chelsea trip

The FA insist the police weren't the intigators of their probe into Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho's comments at the end of victory over Newcastle United.

The Daily Star says Mourinho is being investigated after appearing to mouth obscenities into a television camera in Portuguese as he walked down the touchline at Old Trafford.

Several reports have suggested it was Greater Manchester Police who notified the FA of his behaviour.

But it is understood the FA decided to launch the investigation after bosses saw his actions on TV themselves while watching the match live.

Mourinho will be contacted and asked to provide his own observations about his outburst in the wake of United's dramatic 3-2 win over the Magpies.

And the FA have employed a team of linguistic and lip-reading experts in a bid to find out what he said.

Should he be banned, Mourinho could be forced to sit out United's trip to Chelsea after the international break.
