Exclusive: Scout Bertuzzi insists AC Milan system hurts Bakayoko

Italian scout Fabrizio Bertuzzi believes Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko will improve at AC Milan - if he's played in the right position.

It hasn't been a great year for the 24-year-old.

The midfielder was ousted by Chelsea, just 12 months after his £40m switch from Monaco, and sent to Milan on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The move garnered plenty of enthusiasm from the Rossoneri, with hope the move could help the Frenchman rediscover his form from Ligue 1 two season ago.

Unfortunately, Bakayoko struggled mightily in his opening games, so much so that Milan were tempted to end his loan spell prematurely.

But Bertuzzi, who has extensive knowledge on Serie A from his time working for Fiorentina, believes manager Gennaro Gattuso should tweak his system to get the best out of Bakayoko.

He told TribalFootball.com: "From a psychological perspective, it isn't pleasant to be loaned after only one year.

"Then, I think that 4-3-3 is not the best scheme for him - especially if he doesn't play as a defensive midfielder."

Things have, however, started to turn around for Bakayoko. Gattuso leapt to the defence of his player after Milan fans jeered him against Genoa two weeks ago.

And in Sunday's win over Udinese, Bakayoko produced arguably his finest display for Milan whilst playing in a central midfield two alongside Franck Kessie.
