EXCLUSIVE: Man City target Stones 'needs to think about manager he's joining'

Former West Ham and Portsmouth defender Hayden Foxe says John Stones must consider all angles if he is to leave Everton this summer.

Stones is being linked with a record transfer to Manchester City - and has also attracted the interest of Manchester United and Chelsea since the end of last season.

Foxe, who like Stones, was a ball-playing centre-half during his career, says choosing the right manager for a player of his type is as crucial as the club he agrees to join.

The Aussie, who was twice signed by Harry Redknapp, told Tribalfootball.com: "The manager plays a massive role and has the most important position at the club.

"Depending on the message the board sends to the manager, regarding what is expected from him, it's his players who will determine how he can develop the player and his team."

Foxe is adamant Stones doesn't need to move abroad for a defender of his style to be appreciated.

"No, I don't think so. When you are playing at the highest level in the game, it is always going to test you. You must adapt to the conditions of the game and league you are playing in."
