Exclusive: Guidolin holds no grudges after 'beautiful' Swansea spell

Francesco Guidolin holds no grudges towards Swansea after his 10 month spell with the club.

The former Udinese coach saved the Swans from relegation in the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, gaining 25 points from the end of January to May. It was almost a miracle and Guidolin loved the experience - like all Swansea supporters and football fans alike.

It was more than three years ago, but Guidolin still remembers the love of the Swans support, who were furious when he was sacked by Huw Jenkins. Swansea fans even launched a hashtag on Twitter (#HewOut).

The Italian was ousted after only seven official matches during the following season, but as he said: "Things like this happen in football, I only have positive memories."

After only three months, Swansea fans dedicated chants to him and Francesco won't forget the love of the fans.

Speaking about the experience, Guidolin added: "It was my first and only experience in the Premier, but it really was challenging and beautiful. That's what I would like to do in the near future, because I am tied to that memory, to that way of doing football.

"The positive memory of an extraordinary environment remains, I had a very strong bond with our fans. One of the most positive experiences I have had and since they were almost all positive, the one with Swansea is certainly one of the most beautiful. And so I would like to try again."

It's obvious why Swansea fans fell in love with that team: Lars Sigurdsson and his teammates managed to defeat Chelsea and Liverpool by playing superbly, saving themselves from relegation with passionate and courageous performances. They will definitely remember the game that ended 3-1 against Liverpool, in which Andre Ayew scored two goals in an astonishing performance.

Asked why he believes he was sacked, Guidolin replied: "The following year I was dismissed, yes. In my opinion unfairly, we could only play seven matches and against mostly strong teams (Leicester, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, all in the first seven matches).

"I remember that I asked and wanted the player who saved Swansea, Fernando Llorente. He arrived at the end of the summer market and there was very little time to put him in a position to express himself at his best, with a physique like his".

Guidolin would eventually be proven right about Llorente, as the Spanish striker almost single handedly steered Swansea to safety by scoring 15 goals in 28 matches, and was sold to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017 for £12.1m, more than double what the Swans had paid for him only 12 months before.
