Estoril chief executive Guilherme Müller believes Matheus Nunes has plenty of room for improvement as the Portugal international continues to be linked with Europe's elite.
Nunes, 23, was signed by Primeira Liga side Estoril from local club in Ericeirense in the summer of 2018, and made his first debut in October of that year.
It only took a few more months before Nunes was spotted by Lisbon giants Sporting CP, where he signed a five-and-a-half year contract.
The midfielder has grown immensely in the following years, racking up 99 appearances across all competitions for Sporting, earning praise from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola following their meeting in the Champions League last season.
Nunes has been linked with City, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Wolves and Chelsea this summer, and Muller says Nunes deserves credit for his rise to stardom.
Asked if was surprised by Nunes' links to Europe's biggest clubs, Muller told TribalFootball.com: "It's a tough question to answer because I'm really biased! We love Matheus Nunes here at Estoril. I think he is an amazing player and an amazing person.
"I think that he has developed hugely as a player. All credit to our sporting director Pedro Alves for discovering him as he really was an unknown player at the time, from a very obscure club. He started out in the under-23 team but with his work rate he soon joined our first team. When he then joined Sporting, they quickly recognized his quality too. He has developed a lot and we hope that he fulfills the potential that we saw in him too, in his commitment to training too.
"His progression has been amazing and he has been getting compliments from many people, including Pep Guardiola who said that he was one of the best players in the world playing in his position, which we agree with!
"He's still young and there is still room for improvement but the work he has done at Sporting has been amazing. He's a monster of a player, he works hard in training and he deserves his success. Fingers-crossed that it all works out for him."
