EXCLUSIVE: Dier can make midfield role his own for Tottenham and England - King

Eric Dier can be the engine room at Tottenham Hotspur for many, many years according to Ledley King.

The 22-year-old arrived at Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 as a defender but has transformed into a holding midfielder where he has excelled under Mauricio Pochettino.

Dier has also featured in the role for Roy Hodgson's England and former Tottenham centre-back star King feels it is a position he can call his own for as long as he wants.

“The first time I saw him play there was in pre-season and to be honest, he impressed me straight away," King told Tribalfootball.com.

“Obviously the manager has seen something in him where he felt he could play further forward.

“I hadn't seen that because I'm not around on the training pitch but I was impressed the first time I saw him in there.

“He seems to have made that position his own now and he could have a really strong career in that position.

“He's already broken into the England squad playing there and if he enjoys that role, he can make it his own for years to come for both club and country."

King was speaking as Tottenham's ambassador at the Melbourne launch of the 2016 International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Spurs will compete in the Australian leg of the worldwide tournament against Italian giants Juventus, Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid and current A-League champions Melbourne Victory in late July.
