Ex-youth coach backs Liverpool's Torres for greatness

Fernando Torres' former youth coach at Atletico Madrid, Pedro Calves, believes he can become one of the game's greats at Liverpool.

Calves told BBC Sport: "Because I know him both on a personal and professional level, I think the English league, above the Italian and Spanish leagues, was the best choice for Fernando. So I'm not surprised as to how quickly he has adapted. I think that some Atletico fans assumed he would take a little more time to settle.

"Even in England I don't think people expected him to start as well as he has. But I think Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is still expecting a lot more from Fernando in years to come. He's obviously helped him adapt quickly and he doesn't have the same sort of responsibility that he held at Atletico, like being named captain when he was only 18, and carrying the weight of an entire club on his shoulders.

"Fernando is an incredible player with the potential to change the face of football. I believe that he will continue to improve and go on to achieve even greater success."
