Ex-Wolves keeper Ruddy excited making Birmingham move

Former Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy is delighted with his move to Birmingham City.

The experienced goalkeeper, with more than 450 career appearances, joined John Eustace's side on a one-year contract and trained with his new teammates on Friday at Wast Hills Training Ground.

His arrival follows the appointment of former Birmingham City stopper Maik Taylor as Goalkeeper Coach and the 35-year-old adds a new dynamic to the goalkeeping unit.

He told BluesTV: “I want to prove to people that I can still do a role. I am not getting any younger, none of us are, I am 35 now, but I still think that I have a lot to offer on and off the field.

The former England international, who has three Sky Bet Championship promotions on his CV, also explained what drew him to Blues and his impressions of the new Head Coach.

"It is a massive club, I think you can see that from the infrastructure. I took a look at the squad and it is a very good squad - a lot of big characters, a lot of people who are still hungry for success, people with points to prove.

"I think once you have that blend, of experience with youth and the desire to achieve something, you are on to a winner already.

“The new Head Coach has come in, he is very forward-thinking, fresh ideas and wants to galvanise what is already here and add to that. So to be part of that and to, hopefully, be part of something successful coming up, that appeals to me."
