Ex-Wolves boss McCarthy targets Ireland job return

Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is keen on a new shot at the Republic of Ireland job.

The Mirror says McCarthy wants the Republic of Ireland job after Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane were axed by the FAI.

While free agent McCarthy has yet to be contacted by his former employers, he is keen to return to the hot-seat.

And his former striker Robbie Keane - strongly linked with the vacant U21 Ireland job - could form part of the coaching ticket if McCarthy lands the gig.

Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny - who won four League of Ireland titles in the last five years, including two doubles - is rivalling McCarthy for favouritism in bookies markets.

The FAI want a swift appointment and hope to have the new man in place ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifying draw in Dublin on Sunday week.
