Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo admits he turned down Barcelona in January.
Ighalo has been outstanding in China, having just moved from Changchun Yatai to Shanghai Shenhua.
He scored 21 goals in 28 league games last season and that form brought an approach from Barca this year.
"The idea was that it would be a six-month loan as a backup in the attack. It was nice to hear that Barcelona was interested and all players would be more than happy to take the chance," the 29-year-old told BBC Sport.
"But with all the reps, I just finished second in the shooting league in Kinga with 21 goals, I deserve better and I didn't want to be a short-term player anywhere. We did it, it was a simple decision to take and I chose to stay in China by going to Shanghai Shenhua on a longer contract."
