The Sun says Knight is in talks with the Colorado Rapids about a move to Stateside.
The Rapids are owned by Arsenal powerbroker Stan Kroenke and have a partnership with the Gunners.
Former Bolton Wanderers skipper Knight was due in Denver last weekend to complete the formalities of a deal.
Rapids technical director Paul Bravo revealed a new centre-half would soon be signing: "His strengths are experience, leadership qualities. He's going to be very good in the air.
"He's also going to be somebody who can command the whole group out on the field from that position."
