Former Aston Villa boss Brian Little says Darren Bent should be given a clean slate this season.
Bent has been welcomed back into the senior squad this summer, along with fellow members of the notorious Bomb Squad, Alan Hutton and Charles N'Zogbia.
"I don't doubt that players want to do well," Little told the Birmingham Mail.
"Once they cross over a line to play football, especially at the level we're talking about, I can't believe they're anything other than totally focused on trying to win a football match.
"I would imagine the likes of Darren Bent, the minute he goes on to a football pitch, wants to come off with a goal under his belt. He's that type of person.
"He strikes me as that type of person who is selfish enough to want to score a goal and sometimes people don't appreciate that side of his game.
"He might not graft down the channels and tear here and there after people but he will get on the end of things in the box.
"There have been lots of people like him over the years and if they're playing in a team that's not bad they will score goals."
