Former Aston Villa striker Darius Vassell will not be moving to Notts County as has been reported.

County boss Craig Short has distanced his club from the 30-year old, admitting that there were talks but nothing eventuated.

"There were talks, but nothing is going to happen there," Short told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"It was Ray (Trew, the chairman) who brought it up, but it is not going any further.

"When someone like that is a free agent you would be stupid not to talk to him.

"I think he has got one or two options now.

"I don't even think we got as far as talking about wages, but I think that would have stopped it anyway."

Vassell is currently a free agent after returning to England following a stint with Turkish club Ankaragucu.
