Former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is delighted with his move to Benfica.

Vertonghen has signed a three-year contract with the Portuguese giants.

"Benfica has ambitions both nationally and in Europe, and that was important to me, because I want to win trophies both places," he declared.

"The club's ambitions match my own, and that was a big reason why I signed.

"I like stability and continuity, and that was what Benfica offered me. It was very important for my choice. I felt like they really wanted me and now I'm ready to pay back with good games and trophies."
