Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt is delighted with how the first week of the World Cup has run.
Mabbutt has been heavily involved in South Africa since 2002 in his role as ambassador.
"I was at the opening ceremony and it was a huge event," he told the club's website.
"On the day, I felt very proud of what has been achieved over the last eight years. The atmosphere at Soccer City, the occasion and the match itself with South Africa playing so well all added up to a fantastic day.
"All the supporters have been mixing together, laughing, having pictures together, it's been a great atmosphere at every game.
"It's all about smiles on faces and everything is positive.
"For me personally, I'd been pushing this World Cup for the last eight years in my role as ambassador. There has been a lot of negativity along the way but hopefully now everyone can sit back and enjoy a great World Cup.
"There were a lot of doubters but South Africa always promised to deliver the biggest carnival of football the world has ever seen and so far, that's the feedback we're getting from all around the world."
