Former Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole is training with VVV Venlo.

Cattermole was allowed to come off contract by Sunderland last month.

VVV announced today the 31 year-old is training with them with the aim of landing a contract.

"Cattermole and VVV-Venlo have agreed with each other that there will be an assessment in the upcoming period as to whether club and player match," the club confirmed.

The midfielder was a first-choice for Sunderland in League One last season, but was still allowed to move on.
