Ex-Socceroos striker Agostino: German coaches are best in the world

Former Australian national team striker Paul Agostino is of firm belief that German coaches are among the best in the world.

Agostino was replying to bloggers on heraldsun.com.au during yesterday's announcement of Holger Osieck as the new Socceroos coach and a lot of people were less than thrilled with the appointment of the German.

But Agostino, who spent close to a decade in Germany with 1860 Munich, understands German coaches and believes Osieck is a good choice.

"Obviously bringing a German into the set-up is a bit of a surprise as most were thinking it was going to be a Dutchman," Agostino said.

"Let's see how he goes. We're changing the whole look of the national team and let's see what new players he brings in.

"If you watched the World Cup, you would have seen how Germany were an attacking force," he said. "Even with one man up front (they were dangerous). If he can get the team in that sort of shape, we're looking great. I think a German coach is quite a safe bet."
