Ex-Socceroos boss Farina gets Sydney FC nod

Frank Farina has been appointed the new head coach at Sydney FC.

The 48-year old former Australian national team boss replaces Ian Crook after the Englishman stepped down from his role just over two weeks ago.

Former midfielder Steve Corica took the interim reins for the Sky Blues but now Farina, who has also coached Brisbane Roar and Papua New Guinea recently, will take over ahead of the weekend's meeting with Melbourne Heart.

"On behalf of the Sydney FC Board I would like to welcome Frank Farina to Sydney FC," chairman Scott Barlow said.

"Frank has coached at the highest level and has dealt with the demands of coaching a high profile team. He also brings with him a wealth of A-League coaching experience that will serve him well as he joins us part way through our season.

"We believe Frank has the experience, leadership and coaching acumen to have a positive and immediate impact on Sydney FC."

Sydney currently sit at the bottom of the A-League table with six points from eight matches ahead Sunday's home clash with third bottom Hearts.
