Ex-Roma star Tommasi to become president of AIC

Former AS Roma and Italy star Damiano Tommasi is set to take over as president of the Italian Players' Association.

The current chief of the AIC, Sergio Campana, announced he was stepping down this month after four decades at the helm.

"This is a great responsibility," said Tommasi, who'll be voted in officially on May 9.

"The most complex challenge we face today is a slush fund to guarantee the minor squads.

"I want to see a united AIC, as this is a prerogative for all of us."
