Ex-Roma defender Peccenini: Mourinho more a boss of the club than Friedkins

Former Roma defender Francesco Peccenini feels Jose Mourinho is the right coach for the club.

Peccenini is hopeful of Mourinho staying on next season.

He told TMW Radio: "I wouldn't be so sure. I would wait for the end of the championship first, because now we need serenity and discussing the coach could prove to be an obstacle.

"We must not create those uncertainties that could affect the field, but this seems obvious to me. Instead, I am concerned that (Chris) Smalling is not renewing, also because without him the Roma defence is a mediocre defence. He's the only indispensable one who doesn't have to leave, also because he makes others grow.

"The Giallorossi have one of the best rearguards, even if we need to aim to do more in attack.

“I think the enthusiasm that Mourinho brought to Rome has never been brought by any other coach to the capital. I don't know if this enthusiasm has infected the Friedkins too; at times it seemed as if Mourinho was the boss of the club. I think the doubts are due more to this than to the results."
