Ex-PSG coach Fernandez welcomes Wijnaldum: Just like Rai; but bad news for Verratti

PSG icon Luis Fernandez has welcomed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.

However, the former PSG coach is unsure whether the Dutchman and Marco Verratti can play in the same team.

Fernandez told Le Parisien of Wijnaldum: "Yes, I like him. He has elegance, intelligence in the game and a quality of passing. We also feel that he is a leader. From what I could see, I like his profile a lot.

"It reminds me a bit of when I brought (Mikel) Arteta to Paris. Rai was like that too. They were not fast players but intelligent players, who felt the game.

"The only doubt: it was in the work and the repetition of the games. What he will miss is this great activity of being on the move a lot. Wijnaldum cannot play with Verratti. It is not possible. He's too offensive.

"It takes players to attack, to put intensity, pressing. When we look at his profile, he is more in the technique, intelligence in the game, positioning, passing ... So the question is: who are we going to partner him with?"
