Ex-Nordsjaelland, Chivas, NYRB defender Pearce trialling with Montreal Impact

Montreal Impact are running the rule over USA international Heath Pearce after had hip surgery last year.

The 29-year old defender is a free agent after he was released by New York Red Bulls at the end of the 2013 MLS season and is hoping to win a contract with the Impact ahead of the 2014 campaign.

Pearce has been with the Impact since Wednesday and will undergo a 10-day trial spell as he looks to prove his fitness to the coaching staff.

Montreal assistant Mauro Biello made it clear that the former FC Nordsjaelland, Hansa Rostock, FC Dallas and Chivas USA man was fit and said he had been working well with the rest of the squad.

"He looks fine, 100 percent," Biello told MLSsoccer.com from the Canadian clubs preseason training camp in Orlando.

"He trained normally. We'll see how he responds in the coming days. I think he's recovered, and he wouldn't be here if he were injured.

"When you're on trial, you're at 100 percent, you want to show that you've healed. He was fine at training today. We hope that he'll find some form with a few training sessions, and we'll see how he does in a game situation.

"[The staff] discussed and decided to see how he was, and if he shows us certain things, it could help us in terms of experience and stability at the back."

The Impact are currently competing in the Walt Disney World Soccer Pro Classic where they defeated Brazilian club Fluminense 1-0 on Wednesday.

Their next fixture is against MLS rivals New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
